Review

"In this thought-provoking treatise on the quieter types, Dembling, the blogger behind Psychology Today's "The Introvert's Corner," proposes a wholesale rethinking of what it means to be an introvert.... Dembling's account is refreshingly candid and straightforward--"I am an introvert," she writes, "And there's not a damn thing wrong with me."
"-Publishers Weekly"
"Unlike ""Quiet"," it not only provides scientific and cultural background but also practical tips and a thorough-note of complete understanding of the introvert's nature. An introvert myself, I have never read a book that I have so truly felt myself in."
-"Psych Central"
"Dembling urges introverts to embrace their need for solitude, reflection, and regeneration with no apologies. It's what makes us who we are."
"-Cleveland Plain Dealer"

So enjoy picking up this 'easy to read' book on a regular basis and reading about why I feel and behave the way I do. No longer do I worry that I am different from others around me. This book has made me realise that it is not just ok to be me but actually it is great to be me. Us introverts have so much to offer that extroverts dont. We are sensitive, thoughtful, kind, good listeners and quite often very intelligent. We dont need to have others around us all the time and are lucky enough to enjoy our own company so rarely feel lonely. We are not unsociable or shy but prefer to spend quality time with a few close friends rather than spend lots of time with large groups of noisy people who talk a lot of trivial nonsense. So refreshing, if you get any of what I have written above then this book is for you. Thank you so so much Sophia Dembling for this inspirational book

If you're looking for an in-depth psychological treatise on introversion, look elsewhere. If you want practical suggestions for how to get on in life while staying true to your introverted self, however, this book is well worth buying.

I was already familiar with Sophia Dembling's writing style from following her blog for several years, which is what prompted me to buy this book. I wasn't disappointed.

In short, if you're an introvert, buy this book. If you're not, buy it for an introverted friend!

While this book provides some good insight into the life of an introvert I found the same messages being repeated over and over again. It kind of feels like the book was being stretched out. Chapters are short also! It's a shame because the writing style was quite nice.

I also couldn't help but feel it portrayed a very narrow view of extroverts. Social butterflies, shallow relationships, meaningless conversations etc while exuding the sense that introverts are smarter cos they are 'deeper' thinkers.

Relied heavily on anecdotal evidence e.g. "One introvert said this ... ", "another introvert said that ...". This reader felt a bit more scientific evidence or theory would have strengthened the book significantly.

As an introvert, I think I have gone through 69 years of life vaguely wondering "what is wrong with me". This book has brought a new perspective - " I'm an introvert, and that is great !" Introversion is explained as a difference but not a handicap. Indeed, many very successful people are introverts.

To be critical though, the book is rather repetitive. A text two thirds the length would have been more readable.

I bought this book hoping to provide insight into a side of my personality I am only recently beginning to accept and after reading almost every review for every similar product decided this would approach the subject in my prefered way; inspirational yet quantitive. Whilst I enjoy some of the content and the author draws on both statistic and scientific evidence, for the most part this is based on her own personal experiences and feelings regarding the subject. Much of which I found didn't apply to myself. It also repeats itself on several occasions; I actually thought I was experiencing deja vu at one point. On the plus side it did goes some way to helping me embrace my personality. Although one month after reading I have almost completely forgotten it and don't think I will read it again.

This is an amazing book, which really tackles many of the challenges and stereotypes that I face and I'm almost positive many other introverted people face. Its refreshing to hear someone who is like me and speak in such a confident, enlighting and humurous way - definitely makes me even more proud of who I am!

I think this book is great if your confused on your identity, if you want to get an insight on an introverts perspective on life or if you want to understand a loved one better. Its just really good even if u want to just read a good book! I got it today and ive already read half of it - soon to be all of it haha.

One of the best books I have read in ages (along with 'A Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman- amazing)

*Buy It!! =)

It all makes sense to me, being an introvert. However, I need to read a book such as this a few times to understand it better. Reading this book makes me interested in reading more of Sophia Dembling's works. I am sure that the ideas in this book are very relevant to natural introverts and thus many sighs of relief are given.
