Format: Hardcover
This is a very thoroughly researched examination of the Hull Pals and only fails the "I love it" rating because of the omission of references or a notes section on the one hand, and the inclusion of some overly familiar images on the other hand. But these are minor quibbles; quibbles for the sake of quibbling, and the very many positives of this book far outweigh these. There are no fewer than 27 appendices listing everything from nominal rolls (essential), to rolls of honour, awards and distinctions and even - admittedly as appendix 27 - four Hull Pals stories (which I would have thought should have been incorporated into the main body of the text). The narrative takes us along the familiar route for these books of the raising of the battalions, through to service overseas and the consequences of that service. A very useful study of four East Yorkshire battalions by a respected and experienced author.

I already had a copy of this book, which I find extremely useful for research. A friend wanted his own copy (after borrowing mine), so I bought it for him. He is delighted. Very prompt service. No complaints at all, only praise.
