This review is taken from my blog where I review adult colouring books from a mental health perspective, more images of the book can be found there. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, I was not obliged to provide a review.
This book is the second colouring book offering from Leila Duly who illustrated the hugely successful and utterly stunning, Floribunda, reviewed by me here. This new book is a different format, with somewhat different content and very different production however, rest assured, it’s equally beautiful and an absolute must-have! This book is quite small at 23 x 18cm, it’s hardback with a pale pink linen-style cover in a slightly different shade from Floribunda, with black floral line drawings on the front and back covers and beautiful moss green interior and first and last pages. The spine of the book is stitch-bound and it is glued onto a flexible fabric tape strip which makes it easier to access the gutter in the center of the pages though in some cases this is still tricky and you’ll lose a little of some of the images. The illustrations are printed double-sided and are a mixture of single and double-page spreads.

What can I say more than the reviewer above who writes great and very comprehensive reviews of many colouring books, I always trust her judgement and love the fact that she adds so many pictures.

From my point of view, this is a lovely book. It is smaller than the previous book, hard backed and more desk diary size than the previous A4 size book Floribunder. This book however is stunning and a real keepsake. The pictures now include birds in some instances which are true to life, not cartoon type birds and each page is a joy to behold.

This is what I call a "posh" colouring book and I couldn't recommend it more highly

This is as beautiful as the other reviews say. My only problem is that the designs are so incredible I don't want to ruin it with my, not so artistic colouring!!! May need to buy another to look at and colour this one. You don't often get such quality at such a low price either. Just buy it!!!!

The Flower Year is the second colouring book by Leila Duly, following up on the success of the beautiful Floribunda. Again this features Leila's stunning drawings of birds, insects, woodland animals and of course her beautiful flowers.

The book is hard-backed with a beautiful pale pink cover and the pages are a beautiful creamy colour and lovely smooth quality. The pages are double-sided so it is not suitable for alcohol markers, but the designs are so delicate I don't think most would want to use them on these illustrations anyway. The book was smaller than I imagined it to be at just 23cm x 18cm so it a lot smaller than Floribunda but it is also smaller than other hardback colouring books like those by Hanna Karlzon, Klara Markova and Maria Trolle which was what I imagined it to be. Some of the pictures are very detailed and a few may prove a little difficult to colour as some of the details are very small, luckily for the majority the size means that the illustrations are less daunting to colour.

The inside covers of the book are a beautiful green paper and there is also a ribbon bookmark. The format of the book is that it is broken down by month and the illustrations for each show what plants and flowers are in bloom in that particular month. Drawings of individual flowers are named and it is very reminiscent of "A Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady" by Edith Holden on these pages in particular. There is also the occasional rabbit, bird or butterfly amongst the flowers.

It is a beautiful book and will probably appeal most as a colouring book to more experienced colourists; however it is such a beautiful book this would be a lovely book just to own and look through as a coffee table book.

I bought this book after reading ColouringInTheMidstOfMadness review(reviewer that I trust) It is a flower colourist delight. From the moment that it was in my hands I knew that I was in for a treat. Beautiful stunning art work just waiting for me to get started on. Like many other people I now have a huge range of colouring books and pencils. However this one ticks so many positives it is going to the top of my favourites.
