Product description

This new book by the late Barrie Rickards revisits the pike classic 'Fishing for Big Pike' that he wrote with Ray Webb in 1971. Completely rewritten, the subject matter has been brought right up to date, drawing on years of experience and reflecting the radical improvements in pike fishing techniques and tackle. It uses fifty years of personal fishing diaries to shed light on some fascinating, but little appreciated, aspects of our natural environment - in particular moon phases, and moon rise and set times, and barometric pressure - and the way in which they affect the behaviour of pike and the catch rate.

This superb and delightful book serves as a great memorial to an angling writer whose quality of work is unlikely to be bettered . Barrie Rickards was possibly the greatest pike angler/writer of the twentieth century . This book , his last on pike fishing before he died , condenses his lifetimes accumulated knowledge into one , beautifully written , concise volume which is unlikely to be surpassed for many years to come . A landmark work which cannot be praised highly enough . R.I.P. Barrie ......

I have only been piking for about six season but already have a small collection of pike related books. This is the 2nd best book on pike fishing I have ever read. It tells you everything. My 1st best book...The original fishing for big pike. It doesn't matter how old that book is, you WILL learn alot from it! You will learn alot from this book and will be better for beginners as tackle chapters are more modern. £20 very well spent! (Check out Medlar Press for other fantasic quality, well written fishing books)

One of the greatest pike anglers (and fishing authors) of all time has left us with a wonderful parting gift....a reminder of why we go pike fishing. The late Barrie Rickards is the reason a lot of anglers of a certain age became anglers in the first place anyway and this update of his vintage classic will bring a fresh readership to the sport.
