'Jules Wake's "Talk to me" is the next wave in chick lit – it is a brilliant novel that is funny, clever and romantic. About the Author
Despite early ambitions, my path to being a published novelist took a diversion when after reading English at the University of East Anglia, I ended up in the glamorous and deeply shallow world of PR, and I spent a number of years honing my fictional writing skills on press releases.
In my head I’m a winning contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, a competitive skydiver and a domestic goddess. Unfortunately in reality I can’t dance, or sky dive and dust bunnies gather in every corner of my house but in my fun, romantic comedy, my heroines can be anything they want.

The book has characters that you can really believe in and identify with and the plot has the perfect amount of escapism to make it a brilliant beach read. Carrie is lovely and down-to-earth, and whilst the concept that a drama teacher who lives with her sister and niece is actually married to a Hollywood A-lister seems farfetched, it genuinely didn't feel that way as the story unfolded.
Wake takes her protagonist, her sister and her perfectly-irritating 15-year-old niece to the French Riviera and what sounds like the most gorgeous location imaginable. Not only did I fall in love with the house, but I was also suitably charmed by Carrie's estranged husband, the Hollywood superstar, who makes the perfect hero of the piece. Her current boyfriend, high school teacher and cycling enthusiast Alan, just couldn't compete for me. But I'm not telling you what Carrie ultimately decided to do or who she chose!
So, I loved the location, I love the heroine and hero and I don't think I've read a more accurate and realistic depiction of an annoying teenager in quite some time. If you looking for a summer read that will have you turning pagers quicker than you reach for cocktails, I would definitely recommend you get yourself a copy of 'Escape to the Riviera'.
Here we meet Carrie, a friendly, down to earth person who is a teacher. She lives with her sister Angela and 15 year old niece Jade. When Alan, Carrie's boyfriend proposes she is over the moon but she is holding a secret, Carrie is already married to Hollywood super star Richard Maxwell. No one knows about this except her sister and they have not been in touch for over 8 years. Carrie needs a divorce and quick before Alan finds out. After Carrie discovers Richard's next filming location, she takes her sister and niece to the French Riviera hoping to get the divorce moving. As we get lost in a perfect location, can Carrie finally get her divorce sorted or has she realised Richard is the one after all?.
I loved this from begining to end, it was such a refreshing story and we get to live the life of a mega star. The main thing that stood out for me throughout this book was how Jules Wake, used such descriptive sentences, from the yachts moored in St Tropez, the clothes they tryed on, the villa, the area they stayed in, the yummy food they had, even to the way Richard delivered his kiss. I was lost in this book and its not often i am reading a book and forget the world around me. Jules writes with honesty and empathy. The only sad part was that there wont be a next one, as id love to see what happens next with Carrie and Richard. Maybe Jules will, maybe she wont. I am so glad to have a paperback aswell so i can read it again one day.
