Emotional intelligence is about integrating your thinking, feeling and doing. As a coach, being present, authentic, and non-judgmental is essential if you are to create the perfect space in which your coachees can explore their perceptions and reflect on their actions. After all, it is all about them, not you.
The authors take you step-by-step through what it means to be an emotionally intelligent coach - a coach who is fully valuing of themselves and others, fully self aware and aware of others at the same time, self managing of their own energy and personal interferences, and someone who creates healthy and trusting relationships with their clients.
Many coaches believe they are emotionally intelligent. This book will help them think again. I've been working with and developing my own emotional intelligence for a number of years now, and this book provides me with a ready-reminder of how to stay present and other-focused in my coaching sessions. It is also a core book on our coach training reading list. A 'must-have' for anyone serious about being an effective coach.
The weaving together of up-to-date theories on both emotional intelligence and coaching creates a template from which even the most experienced coaches can hardly fail to learn. This book has certainly acted as a spur to me in my quest for continued growth and development both as a coach and as a human being.
