If you want to introduce superfoods into your diet; this book is for you.
If you don’t have time, money or a food processor (that can work with ice), this book is probably not for you.
If you have a child asking for this book as a gift just be aware that it will be a gift that keeps on costing.
I was pleasantly surprised at how large and thick the book is, good value for money. It is very well presented and very clear with some beautiful photography, although I agree with other reviewers who said they’d like to see more photos of the food. It has a nice introduction from Niomi, which I think would have been better for the back outside cover, as it properly explains the aim of the book. I really like the pages at the beginning, which outline the exotic superfoods and state their health benefits.
As a viewer of Niomi Smart’s Youtube Channel, I bought the book to support her and her positive message. I am vegetarian and after some recent health issues I want to introduce more exotic superfoods into my daily meals. I was under no disillusionment about these recipes and what they would involve. If you’ve seen any of her “What I eat in a day” videos you know the type of things she makes and this book is designed as an extension of those videos. (Unmet expectations are not a refection on the content or quality of the book or author). If you haven’t seen any of those videos then I recommend you to do so before purchasing the book.

The core equipment lists Blender – mentions a nutribullet, Juicer, Food processor and Spiralizer – if you don’t already have these you are looking at well over a hundred pounds.
Moving on to the recipes they seem to contain many exotic and or expensive ingredients – yes you might not need a lot but initial outlay is still required. Examples include Goji berries, Acai powder, exotic mushrooms, brown rice pasta, nutritional yeast, spelt flour, buckwheat flour, rye flour, chia seeds, spirulina, baobab powder, hemp powder and I could go on.
Don’t get me wrong the book is beautiful if lacking in pictures of the food rather than of Niomi, however a lot of the recipes are going to require amendments and substitutions for a person on an average budget.
I won’t be sending the book back as I think I should be able to adjust the recipes to suit my budget and time available, however I’m very disappointed that this book isn’t more accessible for the average person who doesn’t live in London or near a large supermarket/health food store where you can find all these exotic ingredients.
I would also like to say that this book was made to help people explore more plant based meal options and I understand that some ingredients are maybe not staples for beginners on plant based diet BUT in my case my budget has shrinked so much simply by not buying meat and dairy products that I have incorporated over time every ingredient that are mentioned in the book ( some of them go a long way so I already had them) and my budget did no go up compared to when I was buying meat and dairy. It is all about healthy choices :)
