Product description

Review

Well into Martina Cole territory, Roberta Kray's first novel gets under the skin of the London underworld with no problem. --Mark Timlin, Independent

Action, intrigue and a character-driven plot are delivered in well-written style, sure to please any crime fiction fans' --Woman

You might expect a crime novel written by the widow of Reg Kray would be tough... and it is. Recommend this to fans of Ian Rankin. --Booklist.

I have just finished reading this book and it took me a week. Normally with this type of book I finish it in a couple of nights. I did like the alternating chapters of the main characters Johnny and Simone but after an hour of so each night I was finding it easy to put the book down which is quite unheard of when I read thrillers. I did guess the ending quite early on too.

Overall a good book but not the very best I have read recently. I have just bought The Pact so maybe I will enjoy this a bit more.

I was really looking forward to reading this book.

However after a few chapters i found myself getting a bit bored and wanting to have a break!( this is very unlike me, normally i cant put a book down)

I dont know if it was just me, but i worked out the plot half way through. I was disappointed because normally thats what keeps me hooked, playing the guessing game!

Never the less i did enjoy some parts and felt for the main character Simone. I thought the author really got into both character's well, and i liked the idea of each chapeter alternating between the two main characters- Johnny+ Simone.

I would recommend reading it everyone has different opinions, but all im saying is i've read a lot better books!

Happy reading:)

A good debut novel by Roberta Kray. This is the first I have read of hers and was pleasantly surprised. She has a lot of competition in this genre, e.g. Martina Cole, Jessie Keane, Mandasue Heller etc, all of which I have read books by. I wouldn't describe 'The Debt' as a fast paced thriller, more of a steady page turner. My interest was kept throughout the book, although I wasn't wanting to read it at every opportunity like I usually am.

Its written in alternate chapters between the 2 main characters, which at first I found quite refreshing and different, but later on it was a little frustrating and I felt at times it interrupted the flow of the book.

I enjoyed this book overall, and will definitely seek out her later novels with enthusiasm.
