About the Author
Valeri Valeriano and Christina Ong left the Philippines in 2008 to work in the UK in the medical field. After learning how to make cupcake bouquets in 2011 they launched their business Queen of Hearts Couture Cakes and have since won several top awards for their buttercream designs. The bulk of the book is about decorating with buttercream - piping techniques. But scant little regarding texture.
Virtually nothing on how to successfully ice a cake with buttercream such as how to crumb coat and what with.
As a buttercream 'bible' I felt it fell short of what the title promised. As a 'bible' of buttercream piping techniques it is probably just the thing.
The cakes are gorgeous, the recipes quite simple, although you need to be careful when adding wet ingredients to the buttercream recipe as it alters the consistency. For example, they recommend using fresh blueberries, but fresh blueberries contain a lot of water and mean you end up with a drippy buttercream that runs off the cake and doesn't pipe well. After a lot of experimentation, I found that the best thing to do would be to mash your blueberries in a sieve, to remove the excess water, then add the skins to the buttercream and a concentrated blueberry flavouring instead. It's the only way to make anything pretty that tastes good and has the right consistency for pipework (and filling)
I was also quite dismayed by how small the book is. It's A4 but very thin, so there's actually not much of their work in there. However, all the techniques displayed are probably all you need to get started. I quite liked the addition of the necessary tools page and colour wheels etc...

Full of wonderful ideas & helpful tips that I've not seen in any other book. The ladies explain certain 'Cake Dec' phrases and equipment that, when I began.. not only did I not understand but I had to try & find out about them myself - Confusing.
If you are a beginner and wish to introduce yourself into the world of cake decorating & have your work show the "WOW" factor then THE BUTTERCREAM BIBLE is that book.
