From the Inside Flap

From Nora Roberts, the #1 "New York Times bestselling author of The Villa and Carolina Moon, comes a classic tale -- a searing novel of twisted passion and lethal cunning, available in hardcover for the first time.
Superstar mystery novelist Grace McCabe needs to unwind after a grueling book tour, and visiting her sister, whom she hasn't seen in months, seems the perfect solution. But Grace is surprised to find the fastidious Kathleen living in a grungy Washington, D.C., neighborhood. Kathleen, reeling from a bitter divorce and the loss of her son, is saving every penny of her teacher's salary to hire a hotshot lawyer for a custody battle.
Then Grace discovers that Kathleen is boosting her income with an unlikely profession: as an at-home phone-sex operator. Known as Desiree to the clients of Fantasy, Inc., Kathleen is living life on the edge. Yet how dangerous could it really be? With the ironclad anonymity the agency guarantees its employees, could anyone ever track her down?
Grace finds out one cherry-blossom-scented night when she comes home to find her sister dead, strangled with the cord of her "special" phone. Suddenly Grace's life turns into a scene from one of her own books -- the horror, the tight-lipped police, the shattered survivor. Only this time the survivor is Grace herself.
But she isn't waiting around for the police to catch up with the killer. Instead she creates a daring trap to lure the killer to her. Her plan goes against every coolheaded instinct of Detective Ed Jackson, the lead investigator on the case. He's read all of Grace's books and might have been the perfect consultant for the one she's working on, though in this real-life murder, she'sthe last complication he needs.
He's determined to keep Grace out of harm's way, but it's too late. Her trap has already worked. She has aroused the attention of a brilliant madman, and now nothing may be able to protect her from the murderous lust that drives this killer down a path of ecstasy laced with death.

This one certainly has it all... murders, humour, relationships and even house renovation! Only someone with the calibre of Ms Roberts could pack all this in and pull it off in roughly 250 pages. If the first murder has'nt gripped you and got you turning the page, the central characters Grace and Ed will. An excellent follow on to "Sacred Sins".

Ms. Roberts writes absorbing, intriguing romance novels. In Brazen Virtue, the heroine is a murder mystery writer and the hero is a homicide detective. Unfortunately, blossoming love is interrupted (or is it enhanced) by the murder of the heroine's sister. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as I have all of Ms. Roberts' books, but there were a few opportunities for development that were missed. For example, when the hero discovers that the heroine has an astronomical income in comparison to his, only three paragraphs or so are devoted to their discussion. I think with most relationships, that would have been a huge point of conflict and could have been discussed more thoroughly. Overall, though, this novel is very entertaining and well worth reading.

"Brazen Virtue" was a great "love-mystery" mini-novel. I am used to reading Nora's romance stories, so this one threw me a bit. It was wonderful nonetheless. The sister of a murder victim helps her next door neighbor catch the criminal. I give it a thumb's up!!!!!
Also, try the Mackade Brothers' series.

I thought the book was fantastic. But, what Nora Robert's novel isn't. The first book I read of hers was "True Betrayals", and after that I just kept buying more and more of her novels. I especially liked Carnal Innocence. Keep them coming Nora!

Her books are my favourite! Never a dull moment in her plots. Her characters are funny and exciting! Although this one is very similar to Sacred Sins, but both are really good! I hope she'll write more romantic-suspense, but they'll never be in time for me!

while getting into the story, the plot, the characters, i couldnt help but feel as though nora roberts rushed thru this one. while i love a short book, and this one is a good one at that, i felt the delevopment of the people themselves couldve been elaborated on...a little more into the marriage of kath and her husband...where was the reaction of her son? ben feared tess working on this type of case because of something that had happened to her a few months back, but it never really went into that....these are things i wouldve enjoyed knowing, but nevertheless, this was a good read ::smile

I was looking forward to this book, but when I opened it, I found it started at page 235 meaning the last 42 pages are in there twice, and the first 42 aren't. While I can't help but find this somewhat amusing, I can't deny that it is rather annoying and has spoiled my experience.
Having said that, it's clear yet again how masterful a writer Nora Roberts is. Thumbs up, as usual!
(And obviously, the lack of the start of the book - which I read through other means - influenced the amount of stars.)

Another super story by Nora Roberts I don't know how she thinks of these ideas but I am so pleased she did. A strong woman called Grace trying hard to think about her sister and rescue her relationship with her. Is shocked by something her sister does that leads to a totally life changing consequence . Alongside this is a happy romance for Grace . Thanks
