I feel that I have battled with my weight all my life, I spent my childhood ravenously hungry, and find it hard to know when enough is enough.

I have wondered about low carb eating, but was worried about the low carb - high fat advice of the Atkins Diet.

This book has been a revelation.

I am currently 5 weeks in and have lost 36lbs by eating fresh vegetables and protein.

The book explains (with lots of references to current research work) how you can stabilise blood sugar levels (for the first time in my life I am simply not hungry, and I am only eating 800 calories) and eat in a healthy way.

I keep rereading it to make sure I have missed nothing.

I have not tried the recipes, as I prefer to make my own, and so cannot comment on the ones in the book.

However this book, it is fair to say has changed my life, I am lighter, fitter and much more active.

And hunger free.

Update I have now been following this diet for 5 months, and have lost 100lb in weight.

And I have still not been hungry once, an amazing diet book.

I lost 30 pounds on the 5:2 diet in 2014 before my wedding. Since then, I have dabbled in doing fast days but only lost back to this 30 pounds. I know it works but sometimes, when you have been doing something on and off for a while you need to try something new to get results.

I need to lose another 15-20 and wanted something that would give me a kick start. In the past Weight Watchers failed, Slimming World failed and although they worked up to a point I cannot afford the 'diet' fat reducing pills any more (they did work but at £50 a month I cannot do that)!

When I saw Michael had written another book I thought I would read it. At £3 I can't really complain, so I downloaded it on my kindle app on my iphone rather than the book as it was out of stock at the time.

It really shocked me. I know I need to get rid of these pounds but as someone who is always thirsty, needs the loo all the time and has the horrid diabetes in my family - it was a true wake up call.

The big part for me wasn't just the food - it was the booze. I love a glass of good wine, a gin and tonic, a cider, a beer basically I love my booze - not huge amounts on a Friday and Saturday but a couple of glasses a night. On this you really should try and avoid so I have done for the first week. Its not easy - fasting and low calorie meal planning I have done and can do, this is much more of a lifestyle change than I ever had to do with the 5:2 - with that I just didn't drink on my fast days. So far its been pretty easy to do this. I bought one of those waterbottles with a fruit bit and often have a mint and cucumber version going so I don't miss it. I also love fizzy water so try to make sure I have a bottle in the fridge as I like it cold.

I had my blood sugar tested recently and I found it was higher than it should have been for a normal adult. I have been reading a lot about the evils of sugar recently and came across Michael Mosely's book. I have a lot of time for this author and presenter and decided to purchase the book which is inexpensive. Fascinating and informative reading. This book mainly describes, amongst other things, a low sugar diet for 8 weeks that has successfully reduced many people's blood sugar allowing even diabetics to be able to no longer need their medication.
I decided to follow this diet as I was very worried about my raised blood sugar. I am a fan of bread and potatoes and do like the occasional bar of chocolate so these have been cut out. What really amazed me was the sugar content of most breakfast cereals and the fact that even some brown bread has added sugar to make it taste better! A case in point, one brand of instant porridge has 1 gm of sugar per 100 gm in the Original version but 21 x more in the Golden Syrup version!!
I have now been on the diet for 12 days and have lost 10lbs. I was 16 st 2 lbs :-)

I bought this originally for my mum who is type 2 insulin dependant diabetic. She has a whole host of other problems including COPD but her diabetic medication has made her put huge amounts of weight on and she can hardly breath now. So I'm hoping this book will help her to get her blood sugar under control then she can start to lose weight and breath better. It's a vicious circle! Glad to say she loves the book and has done some if the recipes which she says are delicious. Still early days but she lost 3lb in the first 2 days so we are optimistic!

Based on her enthusiasm I downloaded the book on kindle and read it in two days and have now started the eating regime. I have about 7 stone to lose and am not yet diabetic or pre diabetic however I know if I carry on I will be very soon! Lost 5lb in the first week so, great let's carry on!

all the years my mum has been diabetic and regularly seen by her diabetic nurse and doctors she has never been told to cut out these starchy carbs and that seems to be the key.

Michael Moseley is not afraid to bring new science to us and I love that he challenges conventional advice.

Update 23rd March
3 weeks in I have been doing this style of eating but at 1100 calories a day. I have lost 12lbs. So if you can't cope with 800 I would just up it a little. My mum has lost 8lbs and as she is inactive that's brilliant. Her blood sugar is more stable than ever and it's looking good. No hunger for either of us and energy level is excellent.

Update September 2016
The advice in this book really really works. Pounds drop off even at a higher level of calories. I've lost stones!
My Mums blood sugar has been more stable for the last 5 months and insulin has been reduced dramatically.
