About the Author
Joost Wouters (1970) is one of those rare people capable of coupling business growth with personal development. This is why the world's top companies invite him to their offices.
Joost (pronounce like 'Yoast'): "I help General Managers and their Leadership Teams to exemplify the change they want to see in their organisation and to overcome the obstacles for sustainable growth.
My main drive for writing is that I didn't exactly enjoy every situation I was in, when I was an executive team member. Feeling more like a reactive firefighter, rather than a proactive business builder, wasn't providing me with the energy to achieve what I wanted to accomplish.
I just don't want you and your team to be there as well, let alone to stay there.
When people get to the point where they start leading an organisation, they can accomplish so much more than answering email all day. I believe that most teams are wasting their leadership potential and the talents they have. You and your team just have to fulfil your leadership potential, because your organisation looks at you and follows your example.
I started my professional career at P&G. Later I joined the Executive Team of Pepsi Cola Benelux. When our first son was born, I decided to quit my job and start a Management Consulting firm. Over the last 11 years, I have worked with clients such as Unilever, Heineken, Reckitt Benckiser, LG.Philips, Imperial Tobacco, Vodafone, Sara Lee, and Nestlé all over the world.
In 2005 I traveled with my family for a year through the USA in a motor home. Since our return we moved to Spain, where we've built a house and training location on the Mediterranean. Here you're always welcome to discuss your challenges while enjoying a cortado.
The most important reason why leaders and their teams want to work with me is that I'm a living example of what they want to achieve. I make things happen. Or, as one client stated: He is Mr Results."
What do I enjoy most? I have helped:
* Management Teams to create & implement impactful strategies and get buy-in through the whole organisation
* Building dynamic & vital Leadership Teams that achieve breakthrough results by optimally using their cross-functional expertise
* Managers to become inspirational team leaders that dramatically improve their team's productivity and performance
* Commercial Teams to develop concepts that boost their product's sales and market share

This book changed everything for me. I am now in full control of my inbox. I have clear plans on how to manage my working days. I successfully changed the expectations from my colleagues by controlling when I read and responded to emails. I now simply feel more productive and in control of my working day. I can go home knowing that nothing has been missed from my inbox and tomorrow’s plan is prepared.
This book is very simple to read and follow. It will take time for you to fully implement to ensure it becomes a habit, but I can assure you that each day is a little easier. Definitely worthwhile.
Reducing both inboxes to zero took much less time than I thought it would. Reducing them to zero was like a big spring cleaning session, and now the feeling of freedom and being in control is much bigger and better than I had ever anticipated. The other big difference is the fact that I have turned off the alerts and now check my emails only 3-4 times a day, a big breakthrough!
The book offers a very effective combination of practical advice (such as the 4Ds), as well as more profound insights into the psychology of changing and sustaining new habits and how you can link your email behaviour to the objectives you want to achieve in work and life in general.
I also really enjoyed the recognisable examples that Joost Wouters uses from his personal work experience at P&G and Pepsi and as a consultant. A very enjoyable book to read, and well worth the time investment!
If, like I did, you feel that email is taking too much time in your day-to-day (working) life, then I can highly recommend this book, it really worked for me.
I started the book because the author is an ex-colleague from years ago and I was just curious - I finished this book because it helped me get a grip on the endless stream of email, reducing clutter in both my inbox and my mind! It not only helped me to get through incoming emails more efficiently and effectively, but the recommendations even helped to reduce the amount of incoming emails.
Would recommend this for anyone that is frustrated with their inbox - this book really helps to make better use of your time!
