Good Things Come in Small Packages
Bearing the R.O.GNT brand military styling and available in Pink, Black or Camouflage-Olive, the Mono Capsule Speaker is designed to fold into the shape of a small ball and can be taken everywhere in your pocket or bag. Thanks to the innovative design and high-quality materials, the concertina elastic middle section allows the unit to be quickly collapsed to a minimum for a fast getaway. And with a capable 2.7W output power and a frequency response of 300Hz to 16kHZ the sound is amazingly bright and clear for such a tiny model.
This compact speaker can be used with practically any device that can accept a 3.5mm jack plug. The line-in input sensitivity means you can connect your computer or games console and amplify the sound of a video recording or game soundtrack. Or connect your MP3 player or phone and listen to internet radio or music stored in your digital music library. And with a 300mAh capacity built-in lithium-ion battery (charged via the USB cable included) that can power your speaker for up to 5 hours, you can go to the beach or the park without worrying about being near a power supply. Adding an external battery pack (not included) can increase the run time even further.
With great sound quality, portability, and compatibility with a wide range of devices, the R.O.GNT 0001 Mono Capsule Speaker is the perfect playtime accessory.
Top customer reviews
First of all, it's tiny. As another reviewer pointed out, it's roughly the size of a golf ball when closed. Once unscrewed and fully expanded it's still only marginally taller. It's lightweight and it's camouflage green! Most importantly, the sound is pretty phenomenal for something so small and in this price range: it's loud but clear, not at all tinny like some other products I have previously owned.
Its built-in mini cable fits into a small compartment under the body of the speaker itself - it's very short but you also get a longer, split cable for both USB charging and standard audio input. Nice touch - most of the times these things aren't provided as standard.
My only slight criticism is that it took me a while to figure out the instructions; I was initially confused by the 2 cables and tried to read the accompanying leaflet, but I can only conclude that the English translation was done by an online language translator, or worse, by someone who knows no English at all. The instructions make no sense whatsoever.
Bizarrely, you also get a Marine-style dog tag on a chain with this product - which might come in handy at the next fancy dress party if you want to impersonate a military character. What more can you ask for?
But seriously: this is a small size product not to be underestimated.
But why would the manufacturers do this? Why is a gender neutral product like a capsule speaker made to look like this? Beats me!
This little olive MONO capspeaker weighing in at 2 grams certainly works as a speaker for my Nano, It's not brilliant for music having a 'tinny' sound reminding me of a tiny transistor radio, but it works great for the spoken word audio books and podcasts.
It doesn't mention it in the poorly translated instructions but you can connect it to other capspeaker's. I connected it to my Gadget Hunter Monster Bass capspeakerMonsterBass Mini Speaker for iPhone / iPad / iPod / MP3 Player / Laptop - Black.... and it really improved the sound quality.
This speaker is charged via a USB. It did have a charge but not a full one so I charged it before I used it in the hope it will extend the battery life which is stated at around 5 hours, the Monster Bass boosts 10 hours.
While the Monster Bass says that it works with mobiles/ i phones i pods/ Mp3's Mac's/ PC's and gaming devices.
the R.G.GNT makes no mention of these these capabilities in the manual.
To sum up the size is attractive, being about the size of a golf ball, it's great for audio books and podcasts but music sounds like it is coming from a mono radio. Though that's not to say this speaker is not good, it's amazing that such a small speaker can give out so much sound.
If you want your capspeaker to be no bigger than a golf ball then this is the one. If you want the music to sound better then try the slightly bigger Monster Bass, which is my preferred choice.
If you want to to have the speaker further away, then the provided lead is about 50cm long. This lead also doubles as the charging lead, although for charging you could use any mini-USB data lead. It did come charged and was immediately usable (so good if you are buying as a gift).
The only negative thing to say is that it seems a bit expensive for what it is, however you do get what you pay for.
Recommended, however I'm not sure that I will wear the included bling dog-tags that were in the box :-)
What a surprise! Ok, it's mono, but when it's in the expanded state, the sound is rich and well defined and the level of bass this thing is capable of is an ear-opener. It's not going to drive a party volume-wise, but it's more than adequate for background listening. And even at the highest volume my phone and iPad could put out, there's no clipping or buzzing.
Only a few niggles, and they are niggles rather than flaws! First, it looks expensive for what you think you're getting, before you listen to it. If I'd not heard good things about one before, I'd have been hesitant. And second, with bass-heavy tunes the capsule can move around on the surface it's on! Fortunately, if you use the small lead that's wound round the base of the device, there's only so far it can go and the weight of, in my case, my phone, stops it walking off the edge of my desk. Oh, and a tiny case to put it on to make it totally pocketable would be great - the speaker cone looks a little vulnerable to me if it was pocketed with keys or a pen...
It's a great little device for its size and so easy to carry round.
