It depends how much you use it. I test mine with the strips every morning and tend to put in about 2 teaspoons of chlorine granules every other day. I have only used the PH Plus once in 4 months and the foam reducer 3-4 times. I think it also depends on your regions' water quality for the PH level.

Even if you don't use it for a few days, I would still test each day as the chlorine evaporates and needs topping up or your water will go cloudy. see less

From a freezing cold outside tap mine was ready to go the day after it arrived. I left the heater on over night. Doesn’t take long to fill if you have access to a hot water tap.

No you can unplug it when it's not in use but of course you need it plugged in to heat and use

It has a 3/4 inch outlet and takes a good while to empty. We unscrew the plug and leave it to empty...probably about 1.5 hours
