Answer:
My paperwhite doesn't have a headphone jack; however when I have bought a kindle book with audible narration and want to listen to the audio copy, I switch to the kindle app on my phone which supports the audio. The whispersync function makes sure that the audio starts at the point I stopped reading on the kindle device

Contact Amazon. They are excellent in helping either fix it or will replace it. I believe they adhere to the 2 year warranty.

Answer:
I'm sorry to hear that. I would recommend investing in a cover. I can recommend this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fintie-Kindle-Paperwhite-SmartShell-Case-Vintage-Blue-Rose/dp/B00ZE9SP40 It is sturdy enough, doesn't weigh much, it's thin, and the magnet puts your kindle in sleep mode when you close it.
