You can put in a lot of very thick textbooks in the bag without it bulging, but when it gets heavy the stitches in the arms straps come off.

You could probably put a small sandwich box in (like a plastic takeaway box) as the front pocket is relatively big, but not a large lunchbox. But there's so much room in the main pouch that you wouldn't need to use the front pocket!
