Mine came with the Bluetooth adapter. I don't know about the Microsoft surface but every device that I and my family own with Bluetooth will play with it. It all sounds great as well.

Not rechargeable, no, needs to be plugged in all the time. The bass is good actually, deep and warm, can be a touch uncontrolled at times but over all (for the cost) I think it's great. You will only need an adaptor if your iPod has the new charging pin.

Can't swear to this but did work with an S3 and the KS bluetooth adaptor. I've used a third party adaptor too - I suspect any bluetooth adaptor that plugs into the old Apple 30pin connector will work at least for the basics.
I mainly use it with ipod and iphone though.

Have you've given the KS Tech Support / halp connection form a go? They don't seem to maintain a copatability matrix but that might just be because there a no issues!...? see less
