The connection from this item is through the headphone socket on your device - which is a universal fitting across all devices. If you have a headphone port then this will work.

No it doesn't charge the the ipad. The only connection to the ipad itself is a 3.5mm jack for the audio. The USB connection is just to charge the batteries in the speaker itself.

One of the leads on this speaker has a USB on the end. This USB then plugs into my Samsung Mains charger, with the USB connection in the plug (the new type they are now selling).
