There are slightly different sizes of HD fire case, Kindles brought 2012 and before are different by about a cm than the current HD fire.

2013 is the new expensive one called HDX only released a couple of months ago(around £200). 2012 is the standard Kindle Fire HD.(around £120). I got mine from the recent Daily Mail offer and it's a 2012 so the case fits perfectly.

If it's a new Kindle Fire HD 7" then no, the sockets and switches aren't accessible. "Previous Generation" is tucked away and not explained. But the price is the attraction and you get what you pay for...
