In the original instructions it says flashing red lights indicate 'abnormal conditions'. Is it possible the batteries are old/damaged? If they have been used a lot, they may need to be replaced? Hope that helps

The charge rate may vary however I am really pleased with this product and it seems efficient. I am not technical enough to know whether there can be a reduction in life using a fast charger. What I do know is using rechargeable batteries is a lot cheaper than buying non rechargeable batteries in the long run. Hope that helps!
