If you mean, can it be used for read/write from Mac OS? then yes it is when I bought it I didn't know it can be used with Mac and windows without any changes that's why I made one partition exFAT but Mac can read NTFS without any problem. Hope this answer your query

Yes. USB 3.0 (this drive's connector) is backwards compatible with USB 1.0 ports. Note that USB 1.0 and 2.0 ports will be slower in transferring files when compared to USB 3.0 ports.

In other words USB 1 stands for the speed that you can have when transfer data.
The hard drive will work, but you probably get a message on the screen: your passport will not operate with maximum speed, or your device is limited to the speed provided by the laptop. I hope that I managed to explain :)
But you know, it is time to buy a new laptop, don't you think ;)

I have the 1TB version. It comes formatted for Windows but my 2011 iMac recognised it immediately, offered to reformat it and did so within a minute. It's been purring away as a TimeMachine ever since with no problems at all...
