Hi there, the speakers work on my TV but it needs both; USB and headphone plug for it to work. The USB generates the power to the speakers whereas the headphone plug provides the sound.

They can't be charged as far as I'm aware. They could be plugged in to the mains easily enough by means of a USB mains adapter which are available for only s pound or two. You probably already have one if your phone came with a charger of the type that has a USB slot and a separate cable that plugs in to it.
