This is an IP phone only and you don't need a separate phone line. It does need to be connected to the Internet, via broadband or other internet source. Normally a third party provider such as Gradwell.com would provide you with an Internet phone number.

I bought 1 phone to experiment with using a 3CX software telephone exchange. I was able to configure it to share an extension number with my Tablet and Smart Phone as well as transfer calls between them. That depends on your voip host. It's nothing to do with the hardware. I use this phone, but have an unlimited call minutes package within the UK, and to Europe and the US.
