I believe that "Square Trade" will give you the answer to that one. If pressed for an answer then probably proof of purchase i.e. a receipt from the vendor showing model number and serial number. It may also be possible to send an email to Samsung after going to their website. AB

Below is a more detailed answer as to why Squaretrade warranties run along side the Manufacturers warranty. Our warranty for new items begins on the date of your item purchase, so that we can try to ensure that every customer has coverage available when it is needed. We wanted to offer a coverage that applied to a broad spectrum of electronics and home appliances. What we found with manufacturer coverage is that everyone is different. Some manufacturers only cover parts, but not labor, or charge shipping. In the event these scenarios occur, we will happily cover any added expense from the manufacturer. If our Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage is available, the warranty needs to overlap with the manufacturer's warranty so that you will be covered during that first year for accidental damage, since the manufacturer's warranty will not cover damage. Additionally, all of our warranties cover certain issues that most manufacturer's warranties do not, such as failures caused by a power surge, or failures attributable to normal wear and tear instead of a defect in the product. Also, many manufacturer's warranties are promoted as "1 year" of coverage - but if you look closely, they may offer 1 year of parts coverage, and only 3 or 6 months of coverage on labor. In the event the manufacturer limits their coverage in this way, and you have an issue where the manufacturer will only cover part of the cost of the repair, we'll reimburse you for the rest of the parts and/or labor costs, up to the value of your SquareTrade warranty, with an approved claim. I used this insurance when I claimed for a tablet which I dropped, they were brilliant and gave me a full pay out for the price paid. You have to start again with the insurance though!
