Adapter works on short 1 metre lead but not on 5 metre lead. Both leads work but not using adapter. I have no idea why not!

To connect 'optical out' from skyQ box to 'optical in ' on Bose systems?..the answer is yes, for audio only. You can then assign it to the prefered input of the Bose i.e whatever old sky box was connected to.

What model is it? I currently have this cable running from a sound bar into an Xbox one so not sure if it runs into a tv, but my model LG tv doesn't have optical cable support

It improved mine compared to the old cable. It has a more secure connector into the tv so therefore improves the optical fibre.

I your sound bar and DVD recorder both have a toslink connection then it is well worth trying as I Have been told it can give a better sound....however I don't have a soundbar so don't know personally....
