The quality of the play back of your voice is very clear, we also have an Olympus vn-712pc which also has very clear playback. My husband has a keener ear than me and is very pleased with it.

Hi Susan, I'm not a technician of this brand I'm just an owner of one, I've never seen a thing saying error on it, how do you mean it says error? You can do the obvious check your batteries are in right, that they're not flat. Having owned a couple of these things, I've never seen that, if it's a new one, I'd probably return it to them it just sounds like, you may have something out of sequence, or it could just be simply defective and needs returning. Keep fiddling about with it trying different combinations of things. Have you got the Hold button on when it should be off. Other than that sorry can't be of more help, I've never encountered this so its difficult to know for the best. The hold button, the batteries, keep hitting mode and display buttons, maybe you've locked it somehow, if nothing else works with it you will have to return it to them. In my opinion it does sound faulty, but like I say play around with a combination of things.
