It is stereo, but if your player is mono that will not be a problem, as stereo 3.5 jacks are backwards compatible. The R ear is the same as the L ear (so long as you're talking about left and right). They are nice.

Never tried them as such so would not like to comment, would depend on how soft your pillows are too.
For sleeping whilst wearing when travelling on a plane etc. probably no issue; but in bed they'd be likely to pinch or break or both.
Easier to have a small portable speaker playing at low level from the bedside or an … see more

Easier to have a small portable speaker playing at low level from the bedside or an alarm clock with line in ability so you replay via that.
Which is the method I use for listening to talking books through the night.
Can't be doing with music during the night far too disturbing, but each to their own. see less

One word, no, though they do clip onto your ears pulling the helmet over your head would dislodge them.

It is not what I use it for, but i do not see why not. They are fine for walking about. Sound is fine. Maybe if you were particularly active they might fall off, but they are much more secure than the little ear buds which I cannot manage at all.
