The Usb Cable supplied is 725mm and yes it will work via a hub. Mine is currently operating via a HDD Docking Station but I've also connected through a 4 way Hub successfully. Regards

I have not used this with Linux but had problems getting it to load so emailed the company and within an hour had the information I needed and was up and running. Contact the company, they are extremely helpful.

I don't really know if you can play DVD of all regions but you can contact their customer service who I find to be extremely helpful when I got a bit of a problem

Sorry can't answer as I'm running Windows8.1 but if you have a USB connection on your macbook, I should imagine there is a fair chance it will work as it's the software that controls the data transfer.
