Yes: just put it as high on the wall as you can, as smoke rises. The highest point gives the earliest smoke detection.

As far as I am aware, this product does NOT have any radioactive ingredients in it, and was/is an excellent purchase.
I also believe that it is illegal to sell products containing radioactive substances. If you are still unsure why not contact the manufacturer.

on the wall mounting plate on the right there is a plastic tag [part of the base plate] push this down and turn the unit anti clock wise this will disengage the unit from the mounting plate and therefor disarm it, apologies for taking so long to reply.
