Sorry, I don't know the answer to that as we don't have cable t.v. but I think the signal would have to come through the Humax box in order for the box to record the programme.

I had a buzzing too so turned the volume down with the TV's remote control. Just ramped up the Humax volume and it worked. Sometimes have to turn TV volume up again if something particularly quiet. Hope this helps.
