"The Zombie Chronicles" opens with a terrifying scene of two young people stuck on a Ferris wheel when an infected populace of zombies attack, chomping their way through the crowds below.

The book hits the ground running and never stops as we cut to a year later, when Dean and his family are heading for the safety of an island, and he and his brother Nick discover that they have a sister named Val. The bad news is that Val's infected. But Dean thinks he has the cure -- a stolen cache of experimental serum.

The writing here is meaty and intense: "An unmistakable menacing growl erupted from behind me. I held my breath and turned slowly. My hand clutched the sledgehammer more and more tightly as I mentally prepared myself for the unavoidable."

This adrenaline-pumping romp through an apocalyptic future isn't all gut-wrenching terror; it's also full of tender and hopeful moments. The prolific Ms. Peebles specializes in action-packed adventures, and here's one you shouldn't miss. Highly recommended!

This was my first zombie thriller but won't be the last. I could not put this story down which was unfortunate, as I started to read it last night. By 2am I was so tired that I had to leave it, which did not give me an easy night's sleep, as the tale is full of pursuits by biting, rotting, stinking zombies. The storyline is that a couple of brothers break a girl out of a secure facility as she has been bitten by a Walker and will turn into one in five days, so she is destined for lethal disposal. The lads have a vial of secret serum to 'cure' her, (if it works) but she will be the first guinea-pig to try it. On the way to safety, their journey goes horribly wrong and they end up in the infected zone, trying to reach their island home. Various encounters occur and different characters join them with mixed degrees of help and treachery. At the climax of the story, THE BOOK ENDS! You have to continue reading in the next volume! I can't wait!

I purchased the first book in the series when it was a free download. I was hooked after about 10 pages! The scenes that involve the characters meeting the the zombies are so well written I could feel my heart rate increase due to the tense atmosphere that is created.

I went on to purchase the remaining 3 in the series (I can't wait for book 5) and ultimately read all four books in the series over the space of a long weekend.

Gripping stuff with an amazing twist in book 4.

If you like zombie stories, you will not be disappointed.

A good book and an enjoyable read. In principle, a good idea behind the book. I enjoyed the brother - sister plot, and the race to save loved ones from turning into zombies. However, some characters' development seemed unnatural and unrealistic, with a totally unbelievable love story subplot going on, and too much time devoted to it. The action scenes were really well written with vivid narrative descriptions. I downloaded this book for free, and although there is room for a second part to the story, I won't be downloading it, purely because there is so much space in the story given to two characters, two annoyingly pathetic girls, who are pretty much superfluous to it, and they survived the final scenes of the first.

Val had been looking for her family but before she could find them she was bitten by a Zombie, she meet her brother Dean who was helping to find a cure for the virus that had transformed people into Zombies. Dean helped her to escape from the centre where they planned to excute Val the following day. Dean had taken some of the latest vials hoping the they would cure her but the only draw back was that she had turn into Zombie first before it would cure her. Dean asked Lucus to help him leave the centre and his brother Nick to fly them to safty in his helicopter but part way to the island they crashed in the middle of Zombie Torrotory. Not sure if i will buy any more of the series might just buy the next book to see what happens to val

I say teens as the characters are in their teens and early 20's but any age can enjoy this book. I'm loving it I'm only on chapter four so far. It's a really great book written in first person. I don't want to spoil it by explaining it.... I've seen a few zombie flicks and this is different to them all! its written in a new style but it's still about a zombie infestation.
Go for it it's currently free so give it a go see if you like it. I'm glad I did and I think I'll be downloading the series when I'm finished!
6/5* It's just that good. Hope this helps :)
Happy reading.

I purchased this for free on my kindle. I enjoy 'The walking dead' and have watched zombie films but I don't watch it more than the average person. This book was actually very surprising and I really enjoyed it! It does have a sort of 'teen' element to it but if you are looking for an easy read it's very good and you cannot fault the fact it is free. After I had read it, my little brother (10 yrs) read it after me and also enjoyed it!

The Zombie Chronicles (Book 1) (Apocalypse Infection Unleashed Series)

Again, the individual writing style of Chrissy Peebles shines through in this adventurous zombie story.

The author knows how to mix thrills and humour into this fast-paced terror ride of a page-turner.
