Brilliant concert, 3.30 hours of pure bliss, seen Frank several times live, this footage deserves to be up there, he would have been proud of his son and friends who helped put this together, great stuff would highly recommend this DVD

being a long time F.Zappa fan & having watched some blistering performances of Dweezil in the past, i thought why not & bought this

i'm glad i did !! upon arrival i went straight to the Black Page ''showcasing'' Terry Bozzio's solo performance & next to the black Page w/ Terry Bozzio & the band : oh boy ...talk about a band being tight, talk about an unrelentless groove

highest quality performing/recording/production values, mind blowing musicians, timeless Frank Zappa's pieces

i want more.....

I have nothing but good to say about this DVD set. The 5:1 sound puts you right in the middle of the band; the HD picture is great, and most importantly, the playing is stellar. Nearly 3 and 3/4 hours of it!

I'm a guitarist. I've seen Frank play live and up close, and have seen many DVDs and clips of him at work, and I'd have to say in all honesty, that he would tip his hat to his son. In some of the more difficult, weird time passages, Frank would let George Duke, or Ian and Ruth Underwood play them. In fact, there's a documentary going around where Duke quotes Frank as not keen to play over chord progressions. He would usually play solos over 2 chord vamps. If so,. Dweezil has no such reserve! Case in point as he was growing up, check out "Whipping Post" on the "Does Humor Belong in Music" CD. Dweezil and Frank shred the Allman Brothers to pieces.

I think Frank's primary strength was as a writer and composer, which is NOT to say he was a bad guitarist! In fact, much of his music, to my ear, sounds classical in that it has movements, timbre and scope; not just your over-amplified 12 bar blues with lightning 64th note arpeggios in 11/9 time (and those are delightful indeed!).

Dweezil has a cam on the stock of his SG Gibson so you can see his fingerwork. From my experience with the Zapmeister, his son is doing stuff with the guitar that Frank just did not do - and that's darn impressive.

Apart from all of that, it is simply tres cool to see all the new, younger players bringing new life to Frank's stuff. These DVDs show a power and energy which is impressive. Not to mention guest spots by Napoleon Murphy Brock, Terry Bozio, and Steve Vai.

Wonderful album of Zappa junior playing Zappa Senior in concert, with a most enthusiastic band and an appreciative audience. If you are already a Zappa fan this is for you, though first time visitors might find this somewhat strange. Wonderful stuff.

If perfection ever exists in rock music, then this is the DVD to watch !! Dweezil Zappa and his fabulous band revisits Frank's compostitions with talent and virtuosity. I think his is the most amazing live DVD I've ever seen and I wish I had been in the audience. A must-have !

This is about musicianship, this is about how music should be played......it's though as all hell, it's entertaining, it's moving, it's funny. How these guys mastered all this beautiful music I don't know, but they did and it comes together beautiful. Dweezil is master guitar player now, he plays and sounds like his father without really copying him. This music moves me and should move everyone who loves music, period! Once there existed a guy who wrote all this beautiful music, go check him out.......and perhaps this DVD could be guideline. Thanks Frank eternally, thanks Dweezil for bringing it alive again! And the band? What can I say......stellar!
