The writing is a little creaky, but the novel is worth a read for anyone interested in occult themes. Bulwer-Lytton had a deep knowledge of the occult, and it shows in his writing. The book is a little long, but I managed to finish it fairly quickly. Anyone used to modern writing styles may have to give it a few chapters before getting into the story, but it's well worth it.

Lytton weaves a love story of the first degree

This is a classic from Lord Bulwer Lytton, a story of the mysteries of the spirit that are known to the souls who remain dedicated to the search Divine. In previous editions the sub title of this book was "A Rosicrucian's Tale". Lytton weaves a love story of the first degree, encompassing both the temporal and the eternal. It is my all time favorite book.

Not into the meat of it yet but it's very formal and well written...
