Zainab Jagot Ahmed is the UK’s flavour-led weaning expert and mum of one food-loving little girl.
Being British-Asian, Zainab's culinary heritage is chock-full of delicious, flavoursome herbs and spices. When the time came to start her daughter's weaning journey, she searched for cookbooks with flavoursome recipes, recipes which didn’t simply involve mixing different vegetables together, but instead incorporated delicious aromatic flavours – cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, garlic, basil, dill and so on to keep her daughter’s palate as broad as possible.
Unable to find any weaning cookbooks which fit-the-bill, Zainab began creating her own flavoursome spoon-fed and baby-led weaning recipes - incorporating lots of different baby-friendly herbs and spices to add taste and flavour to meals, without the use of salt or sugar. She also spent over a year researching nutrition for babies, and health benefits of herbs and spices, and continues to do so.
Zainab's daughter loved all the recipes she created, and was excited for her next meal. Zainab began sharing the recipes with her mummy friends who were keen to feed tasty meals to their babies too. The result was the same every time - an empty bowl.
Following the success of her daughter’s weaning journey, Zainab realised she could help other mums raise adventurous eaters too and devised recipes and meal plans anyone can use.
Zainab writes for a number of leading parenting titles and is a regular speaker at The Baby Show, the UK’s leading pregnancy and parenting event.
Her debut cookbook Easy Indian Super Meals has won three national parenting awards to date, and her recipes and books have been featured in the following media:
