The best-selling You’re Hired! series now brings you Psychometric Tests
From the Author
James Meachin - a great deal of my work involves using psychometric tests for national and multi-national clients to help identify the best candidates. However, it is clear that some candidates are less 'test wise' than others, meaning that they under perform relative to their potential. This was the impetus behind this book - to enable readers to become savvy and confident candidates who can perform to the very best of their abilities.See all Product description

-It is of a compact size so can be read and practiced with on the tube or the bus.
-It gives a good explanation of each question's answer, and gives a taste of each level of difficulty.
-The verbal reasoning section is decent.
-The maths questions are not hard enough. The "hard" questions, moreover, are not like anything in any of the jobs I've applied for (I've applied for consultancy, banking, and marketing - so quite a large spread). Most of the assessment questions for these and other industries are graph/chart based, very few in this book are which makes it extremely poor preparation.
-There are simply not enough questions to practice with. The only way to ace these tests is to do them constantly and over and over again - there is no substitute for actual practice and preparation. This book is good for explaining how an answer came about, but terrible for sheer volumes of questions.
The cons outweigh the pros, as far as getting a good grade is concerned. If you are like me, the maths portions of the test fill you with anxiety and dread. This book does little to counter that, it only introduces you to the basics. I did a practice SHL test after working through this ENTIRE book and scored 7/20. This is after doing every single sum in this book. I then invested in practice SHL tests from GraduateFirst (highly recommended), and have been consistently scoring 15/20 and above, in the 80th percentile of every test I take. This is also true for the diagrammatic tests with the shapes. Practice is the ONLY way to crack these tests. Invest in online practice instead.
Used the book when i recently went for a test and came 16th out of 600 applicants......this book can definitely add 10-15% to your score. a worthy investment to anyone serious about performing well in these tests.
I purchased this book and used the example questions and advice given throughout. At the time I did not feel it had been very helpful, however I completed (what I felt were even harder) psychometric tests at a later date and passed with flying colours!
Since this book was my only learning material, it must have been doing something right!
