This book is excellent! This book is easy to read and understand for those who aren't knowledgeable about wine but want to understand more. I was so impressed I bought copies to give as Christmas Gifts and the recipients of those books also liked it and have bought it as gifts for other people! Testament to a great book!
I read an advance copy of this book and really enjoyed it - it is written very well and completely without the usual pretension you expect from wine writing. Above all it focusses on the pleasure of drinking wine in moderation, that all tastes are subjective, and that most of the rules and customs around wine are made to be broken!
Especially enjoyed the sections on how wine is actually made such as how rose differs from red, and the sections on corks and packaging which made complete sense and which I was ignorant of before.
And the fact that 100% of revenue is going directly to projects in Sierra Leone makes it taste even better!
What's great about this little book is its readability. You can dip in and out for exactly the advice you need ( though I guess most wine enthusiasts, unlike headache-prone me, won't need advice on how to keep a bottle going for days...). I've been surprised at how much knowledge I retained, and having picked up a copy at the launch have ordered several more to distribute to my family. There's some dry humour, occasional acidity about snooty sommeliers, sweet illustrations. All in all a well-rounded offer for easy consumption. And you'll be helping to build schools in Sierra Leone.Order this book now!
I received an advance copy of this book and was very interested given that my husband and I both work in the wine trade. I found it very readable and informative, and a lot less dry than some wine books can be. I would recommend it to any wine drinker (or potential wine drinker). I also think it is fantastic that 100% of the revenue will go to building schools in Sierra Leone.
I was lucky enough to receive a free review copy for me to read, and what a read it was. It is an absolutely brilliant book and I have learnt so much more from it than I ever would have imagined, and in such a fun way! It is a very easy read too, so for anyone who like me does not always get excited by the thought of reading a book, it is definately worth it!
I’ve just read this wonderful book and immediately bought three other copies for friends. A terrific read and the most accessible (and engaging) book I’ve ever read about wine. Demystifies so much of the jargon in a way that underlines the author’s expertise, but without being in any way patronising. And the fact that all the proceeds go to such a wonderful cause is more than the icing on this cake. I can’t recommend highly enough and what a great gift.
I received an advance copy of this great book and was taken with it straight away. It’s easy to read (bite-size chapters), really informative, packed full of interesting wine-facts and has taught me all kinds of things I didn’t already know about wine. On top of this it’s given me some great tips about buying and storing wine.
I received an advanced copy last week. I really enjoyed reading it and I think it's a brilliant book to read if you know less about wine than the average wine merchant. Great that 100% of all revenue goes towards building schools in Sierra Leone!
Great book for the initiated as well as the uninitiated. Understanding how much the wine in the bottle you are buying actually costs as opposed to tax and retailer margin makes the book worth buying just for that fact! Have given copies to budding connoisseurs who have been equally delighted.
I received a review copy of this book and thought it was fantastic! The book is a very easy read but is still very informative. You will even find some useful tips such as how to store your wine! Highly recommend.
