This is a very interesting and thought provoking book and highly recommended.

I thought the first half was stronger than the second half. The first half deals with advertising and large companies, while the second half is more CIA and conspiracy theories. I was more sceptical about the last part. However the author provides a large range of recommended additional reading material for the reader to investigate further.

The book does quote heavily from other sources (large sections in italics) as well as referencing them. Although not all points had substantiating references. In some cases the references were web links to news organisations articles. These are the same news organisations the book warns us are not impartial!

Definitely worth a read.

Neil Sanders writes with persuasion. This second volume of Your Thoughts Are Not Your Own is probably the more commercial; there's a practical context which anyone unfamiliar with Government agencies can really relate to. He uses documented and referenced sources, to explain how and the extent to which people are manipulated. Not from time to time, but day in and day out. Have you considered opinion polls? Are they really 'polls' or are the questions framed to influence public 'opinion'? Have you heard of Demos? A UK Government think tank with some very scary principles, advertised openly on their own website. Would you consider Goebbels a friendly mentor? What about phrase repetition, favoured as mantra at Party Conferences? Do you know why politicians do that? What about speculative and directive news headlines which shape perception? And there's more, loads more; music, films. Learn which highly popular animated film of a classic was funded by the CIA, but the compromise was a different ending which favoured capitalism rather than communism.

This book isn't contentious. It's a well considered and thought provoking presentation of fact. It's mind blowing. Every reader will be left better informed to challenge what they see, what they're told and how they react on a daily basis. Whether it's reading the newspaper, watching TV, playing video games, shopping, listening to music...at least armed with knowledge and understanding, people can draw their own conclusions. If I had a choice, I'd ensure this book was required reading and discussion material for every young adult. Then more might challenge the way of the world and those who control us. Democracy? Pah!

Another gripping read which I really enjoyed and will recommend without hesitation. Thank you Mr Sanders.
