About the Author

Margaret Blaine is a nineteen year practitioner of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism which originated in the teachings of Shakamuni Buddha 2500 years ago. She has become a leader in the Nichiren Buddhist organization called the SGI-USA, the lay organization of Nichiren Buddhists in the United States. She works in the Pacific Northwest where she supports members in their practice and helps beginners learn how to practice. Margaret taught Nichiren Buddhism to newcomers in a prison for three years in Oregon and devotes herself to working with new people. She says, "I have a passion for working with new people and making this practical centuries-old way of life readily accessible to everyone. "I want to see each person be able to take charge of their life and become happy. In this way we'll be able to reduce suffering and build peace in the world. Part of what I love is that each person verifies for themselves whether the simple chanting practice taught by Nichiren Buddhists produces results in their lives." She has written a book for new people, Your Path to Unshakeable Happiness. She speaks on Nichiren Buddhism and has a website www.margaretblaine.com. Margaret is married and has three children, and two stepchildren. She has three grandchildren. She has four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren by her marriage. She loves to read, write, garden, do handwork, crocheting, beading and quilting. She works out in a gym and rides her bike. She enjoys spending time with her husband and friends and playing with her three cats.

As a newcomer to Nichiren Buddhism who loves books I was both delighted and somewhat overwhelmed by the huge amount of written material that is available for learning more about this wonderful approach to life. To begin with, to stoke my enthusiasm and complement my local study meetings, i wanted to read practical books from everyday people about their experience of Nichiren buddhism really making a difference in their lives and what you can expect from your practice, and this little gem is one of the most uplifting books I found. i would highly recommend it alongside 'The Buddha, Geoff and Me' and 'Bodhisattva Blues' by Edward Canfor-Dumas, and the fab 'The Buddha Next Door' which has iots of stories of victory over everyday problems from Nichiren Buddhists old and new. After a few months I moved onto the writings of Daisaku Ikeda - the president of Soka Gakki International, a huge peace-spreading global organisation based on this Buddhism - and Nichiren Daishonin himself, but I return regularly to this book for encouragement as it is so very positive and practical, and never fails to lift my spirits. Give it a try! NMRK x

Got this book as free download on a free Kindle book Page on Facebook. Just clicked thinking it would be an interesting read and I loved it. I could not put it down and it has led me to chanting since i got it and getting in touch with the local district organiser of a group. I so enjoyed it I am reading it again. Cannot understand why someone would think this religious it is not. It is well written and done so in a unique way. Really recommend it.

This is a book to read over and over again. As a lapsed Buddhist I came across this book accidentally. I was obviously supposed to. Before, chanting was a chore...now I understand so much more and want to chant all the time. This simple book by Margaret Blaine has impacted upon my life as a Buddhist more than words can explain. I can see clearly now...thank you x

Disappointed as felt directed into a religious practice rather than a philosophy. Describing Nichiren Buddhism as a practical way of life and not a traditional religion is misleading as you soon become aware that more than chanting is required: Gohonzon, beads, altar, studying Nichiren Buddhism....not forgetting a Nichiren Buddhist mentor to guide you!
