"An astonishing achievement! Lynne Olson and Stanley Cloud give us a fascinating account of the extremely well documented heroic and daring struggle of a group of Polish military pilots and through it they present us a glimpse of the harrowing history of Poland and Europe during the Second World War." (Ryszard Kapuscinski)
"A wonderful story, wonderfully told. Heroism and betrayal make for heady reading, and this book is long overdue." (Norman Davies The Sunday Times)
The heroic, inspiring, tragic and extraordinary true story of the Polish pilots who fought for the RAF in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War. A remarkable and moving example of a popular history book at its best and a great testament to the wartime bravery and honour of the forgotten heroes of World War Two.See all Product description

The Poles betrayal by its so called deceitful allies, often conveniently economical with the truth to suit their political ambitions and appeasement to Stalin; their cowardice in face of the Poles heroic bravery after all of what they had done for them, particularly by their amazing performances played on various battle fronts especially in the Battle of Britain without which it there is little to dispute it would have been lost without their gallant ferocity of engagement.
It is said "History is always written by the winners, never the losers", how true!
Thank you for this excellent work, it makes for compelling reading and telling it as it really was.
Brought up on stories of his ancestor's feats alongside the Polish general and wishing to repay the Poles for Pulaski's selfless sacrifice Merion formed the Kosciuszko squadron from Polish-American volounteers and fought against the Soviet's in the 1920 Polish-Soviet war. The squadron fought the German's in 1939 and was reformed as RAF 303 squadron shortly before entering the Battle of Britain.
The book provides a wealth of detail which is not volounteered in other history books. It provides the background to the political decisions the Poles had to endure whilst fighting alongside their allies.
This book has changed my perspective on WW2.
This book has whetted my thirst for similar books that I will now be buying.
