My third baby was born 10 days ago and despite having done this twice before, I have been rattled by the advice of well-meaning health professionals and relatives. Having sought Rachel's real-life support with breastfeeding after the birth of my second baby, I swiftly ordered this book and have taken it to bed with my suckling baby to savour some skin-to-skin time and remind myself that this is exactly where we should both be right now. I just wish I had read this three babies ago!
I can't recommend this book highly enough. My only request for the second edition(!) would be the inclusion of an index so I can refer back to a specific topic. This is definitely going to be a book I come back to again, and lend out to friends in the early weeks and months.
This is brilliant, intelligently written and above all is full of common sense. It encourages us to trust our instincts and most importantly, to trust evolution, which is a pretty tough concept to argue with.
My wife bought this book a week before our baby was born and has found it invaluable - both in the lead up to labour and birth and since. It is packed full of helpful, accessible advice that has really helped both of us understand our baby and be better parents to our daughter. There are a few gems in there that have really helped us cope with and turn around some sticky situations! Above all it is easy to read and the common sense approach has been a genuine lifesaver at times especially on topics such as sleep and breastfeeding.
A wholehearted recommendation for all the new parents, or parents to be, out there.
I wish I'd read this book before my first baby. I'm so glad I have now my second is here, as we are both so much more relaxed and better rested.
I'm constantly passing on extracts from the book to friends. Read it!
