Sean likes having freedom. He doesn't care about having a steady job, he lives with his father and brothers so he doesn't have to pay rent and he doesn't want a relationship. When he meets Emma on the side of the road and helps her out he wants to spend more time with her, so he takes her to a bar to have a drink. Emma looks prim and proper, but that's just one side of her. She is a kindergarten teacher and is serious about her job. She's responsible and she's looking for a man to marry and start a family with. She does have a rebellious streak as well, only she tries to keep it in check. After two fun days Emma and Sean are supposed to say goodbye, but they decide there's no harm in meeting again.

While Sean and Emma aren't each other's ideal dates they keep hanging out. Sean is a mechanic and plays hockey. He has an active social life. Emma often goes out with her colleagues on Fridays and spends the rest of her free time working on lesson plans. While their worlds seem completely different Sean and Emma have more in common than they think. They could be great together, but the last thing Emma wants is becoming like her mother, still single while her children are grown up with an appalling taste in men. Sean's lifestyle makes him exactly like the guys Emma thinks she shouldn't date. Will they have a chance or are their differences too big to overcome?

When I saw the cover of In Your Arms I expected a sweet romantic story. Sean loves riding his bike, he works with cars when he feels like it, lives in a basement, likes drinking beer and isn't afraid to use his fists when defending Emma's honor. He's definitely a rebel and the same goes for Emma. While Sean is afraid of the word responsibility he is kind and can definitely be caring when he wants to.

In Your Arms was a great follow up to Under Your Skin! The story grabbed me from the very first page. Emma hasn’t had the best day, and to top it off, she’s stranded on the side of road. She isn’t looking for love. The only thing on her mind is seriously hurting her brother when she realizes he didn’t fix her car after she paid him to. Her world is thrown a bit on its axis when a rugged, sexy knight in shining armor on a motorcycle comes to her rescue. Sean is everything she is trying to run from…he screams “bad boy.” She’s done that before, and she knows she should run screaming in the opposite direction. However, she finds herself agreeing to drinks after he takes her to the garage where he works to get her car repaired. Drinks turn into something more, and Emma and Sean will have to determine if their fling can turn into something more.

I really liked both characters because they were written in a very realistic way. Both Emma and Sean were flawed individuals. Sean was irresponsible and enjoyed his life to the fullest. In ways, especially concerning his temper and fighting, he was still immature. He hadn’t met a woman yet that made him want to change his ways. Emma makes him stop and think about what he wants to do with the rest of his life. Emma is trying to escape the mistakes of her past and want to forge a different path than her mother did with a string of losers and bad boys. On the surface, Sean causes all those alarm bells to go off. As she spends more time with him, she realizes he’s not just the irresponsible bad boy she thought he was, and he allows her to be herself. They really do bring balance to each other’s lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great follow up to Under Your Skin 27 Dec. 2016

Shannyn always delivers sexy with a side of sweet. I loved the first book in this series, Under Your Skin and was happy to dive back into the family. I loved both the characters in this one and truly enjoy reading Schroeder's depictions of family dynamics.

I actually bought the book in a book store and started reading it, got half way through and left it at work on accident. I wanted to finish it so I bought it again on my kindle app! It didn't disappoint.

He's definitely a rebel and the same goes for Emma. While Sean is afraid of the word responsibility he is kind and can definitely be caring when he wants to. He and Emma both have their good and bad qualities, but sweet isn't what came to mind when reading this book at all. Emma is tough, she can take care of herself and she can stand her ground. Nothing about this book is cute or adorable. Sean might have one or two endearing moments, but that's as sweet as it gets.

Sean likes having a life without responsibilities and his behavior irritated me at first. I understood why Shannyn Schroeder made him the way he is though and it was great to see him grow up. I sometimes wanted to shake him as he risks the good things in his life because he wants to remain unattached and completely free of responsibilities. In Your Arms is a coming of age novel, but then with main characters who are in the second half of their twenties. There are plenty of them in real life too, so I like the idea of a story about this topic.

Shannyn Schroeder's writing is honest and sometimes crude. The beginning of the novel, particularly the soon and easy sex between Sean and Emma, astonished me, especially after seeing the cute cover. The idea behind the story is fun and in the last few chapters there's information about the first ones that I think gave them something extra, so that they made more sense, which is something I liked. The ending is nice and not overly romantic, but definitely fitting. What I liked best is that Shannyn Schroeder writes about her main characters in detail, which makes their personalities come to life really well. I loved being able to get to know them through and through. My favorite scenes were the ones set at Sean's hockey games. Shannyn Schroeder doesn't only describe an interesting game, she also uses it to add more meaning and emotion to her story. I love that her characters are completely themselves and know what they like and dislike and are very much aware of who they are and what they stand for. In Your Arms is a unique story with intriguing main characters.
5.0 out of 5 stars I still loved it. I had to bounce back and forth ... 25 April 2017

Even though I had a lot of issues with the heroine of this story, I still loved it. I had to bounce back and forth from liking her to not liking her, but there is always a reason for everything.

Emma is tired of living a life like her floater family. The last thing she wants is to become her mother. She has a record of not always making the right decisions, so she decides to change. Becoming a kindergarten teacher was the best decision she has ever made. Not only does she now have a career she loves, she has stability. With her feet planted and on the path to having a better life, she knows she's missing one important thing, the perfect guy to spend her life with. To marry and have kids with. To round out her changed life. But she soon realizes the perfect guy she's looking for, isn't the perfect guy for her. Stranded on side the highway, she is rescued by one hot mechanic on a motorcycle. They hit it off almost instantly. Their easy banter back and forth, leads them to become friends. Maybe a little more than friends. But Emma knows, Sean isn't who she can spend her life with.

Instantly draw to Emma, Sean wants nothing more to have fun with her. She's gorgeous after all. Sean lives his life, never taking anything to seriously. Life is always more fun, than work. He is looking for everything opposite of what Emma is looking for, so he strikes up a deal with her. Little does he know, that deal will be the game changer. For everything! For the first time in his life, he's brought to his knees, and is questioning everything about how he lives and what he wants out of his future.

Sean looks like a bad boy, but he is unlike your typical bad boy. Which I loved. He's a bad boy with morals. Him and his family are super awesome. If they were real, they are a group of people I would definitely want to be friends with. I definitely wouldn't mind Sean being my mechanic or asking me to ride on the back of his bike. ;)

Emma. Lawd, lawd, Emma. I'm not gonna lie, I had a hard time liking her most of time time. Which is weird because I normally have a hard time like the a-holes in stories like this. I guess it was more to do with her way of thinking and not her perse. I kinda understood her, but then times I thought she was looking into things a little too much. She made certain things, into more of a deal than they actually were. My heart hurt for her at times, because she couldn't just enjoy life. She was too caught up in her straight and narrow way of thinking.

I still really loved the story. As always, I didn't want it to end. But I can't wait to meet more of the O'Malley family. They are definitely an interesting bunch. :)
