Having read all 5 books in succession I feel I have been transported back in time to when I was a teenager, life was less complicated and people did consider others. I have loved the series and feel more books ( not short stories ) could be written. Will re- read these books at a later date.

Every time I read a book in this series, I think the same thing: they are badly and carelessly written, with implausible events and characters, and the whole book does not seem to have any unity, but is just a stringing together of anecdotes, some more worth reading than others. I also get extremely irritated at how the author manages to fill pages with worn-out jokes, some of them donkey's years old. And yet, you may ask, if they are so bad, why have I read another of them? Because if you want something totally unchallenging and very soothing, this is it. For me they are ideal reading for an episode of insomnia in the early hours.

Not everybody understands and enjoys the cricket tecniques (it's in one of the books) and find boring. For the rest it's an enjoyable and sometines clever description of life in a village with which we can identify . I find these books by V> Coleman very restful and attractive.

Another interesting and, in places, highly amusing tale of village life in the seventies which is well written and holds the reader's interest by recounting tales involving the characters already very vividly described in previous books in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone who has, or would like to enjoy village life.

I have had problems finding this book for a few months. Amazon finally had it and it was well worth the wait - brilliant read.

This book is disjointed and fragmented and they are not particularly good stories on their own. Come on Vernon, keep up with your wonderful way of telling life in Devon in the previous books.

I love these books. They are just so refreshingly simple (I meant that in the nicest possible way). No gratuitous swearing, sex, or violence. Just a nice story!
