There are plenty of brilliant songs on this indie/powerpop gem. The album kicks off brightly with the catchy "It's Your Choice", which features a bagpipe-like sound to good effect, "I Don't Wanna See You Anymore" oozes class, with bursts of brass, organ and a beautifully pained vocal from Brendan and "I'll Never Tell" is a melodic beauty with a supremely memorable chorus. "She's Trying To Poison Me" is another classic composition, a slightly dark, humorous tale where the music alternates between jaunty and dreamy and which sees Benson slightly bemused about why he's putting up with this woman trying to kill him: "She's not exactly the girl of my dreams".Read more ›

But on the whole, this CD does NOT disappoint, sparkling with plenty of hook-filled tunes and crunchy guitar work. If you've enjoyed any of Benson's previous albums, I think it's a safe bet that' you'll be pleased with this one too. Benson remains one of the better, yet more underrated singer-songwriters working in the "alternative rock" universe the past two decades. He may have gained some measure of fame and recognition playing with Jack White in the Raconteurs, but I think his fine solo albums --- and this is one of his best --- are where he really shines. Grab it ... and be grabbed!
Oh my god, I have only had it two days and I am totally in love with it! It's really a great album with all kinds of variety-very smooth sounding. Every time I listen to it, which has been often as I am on vacation, I find a new favorite song or hear something that I hadn't noticed before. Still very much Brendan Benson, but with lots of other cool sounds to go along with him. I can't even list all of my favorite tracks now, but the ones that come to mind are #4-Diamond,#12-Oh My Love, and # 15- Red, White and Blues. I even got my ten year old daughter to listen to it, and she likes Red, White and Blues the best.
Bravo Brendan! He deserves so much more recognition than he gets!
