Around midnight, a stylish young couple and their exuberant transvestite maid prepare for an orgy. Their guests will be The Slut, The Star, The Stud and The Teen. Each comes with their own dark and impassioned secrets, unravelled in sequences and flashbacks, in a night that will stay with you long after.
Writer-director Yann Gonzalez' sensual and erotic debut played to critical-acclaim during Critics' Week at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and stars former international footballer, Eric Cantona and cult legend, Beatrice Dalle (BETTY BLUE) in this kitsch ode to love and lust.
With electrifying music by M83, helmed by Anthony Gonzalez, YOU AND THE NIGHT evokes the style and substance of Almodovar, Ozon and Lynch.

Don't buy this if you're not up for bewildering plotlines, a lot less sex than the pre-release hype led us all to believe we would see and some really dodgy, very wobbly hand-held camerawork.
Do buy this if you appreciate the intellectual challenge of plotlines which bewilder and require a little work on the viewer's part; you aren't looking to see Eric Cantona's (real) dick and find charm in the ocasional wobble in camerawork.
Which camp do I fall in?
Tricky one to answer.... Given this film's very limited, indeed, partially crowd-funded budget, I admire the product greatly. Likewise, I admire a nation which still continues to put public finanacing into a national cinema fund, regardless of the eventual commercial return. In today's cash -strapped Europe, with an ever increasingly, and culturally bare, under-funded independant cinema production, I thank our lucky stars France still continues to back risks... Some of the greatest jewels of the last 20 were born in such circumstances .
Praise for a system, which I hope remains ever thus, aside, I have to confess I was expecting something A LOT funnier - I speak French so it wasn't a problem of bad subtitling - the script simply wasn't funny despite the film having been marketed as a transgressive comedy - and a LOT more transgressive: it wasn't on either count!
The edition I bought, whilst I may never watch it again, contained some brilliant early short films by the same team, a haunting CD soundtrack by M83 and the "Speed, poppers, cocaine mdma" t-shirt and, were I again considering which edition to choose, it would be this one which is excellent value for money.
Hope someone finds this useful and enjoys the film more than I did
They all arrive and each appears to have their own peccadilloes and a story to tell. What starts as a tentative experiment in stranger sex soon becomes a compelling group `share and tell'. They all have their crosses to bear and in turn each reveals their past and their secrets and their passions.
This is a sublime piece of film making; it has a rolling poetry that can become almost hypnotic as the players lay their souls bare. It is a shared need for love, warmth, understanding and emotion that seems to act as the glue for all concerned - even though this was only meant to be a fleeting experience.
Everyone is superb in this and we have Eric Cantona being really good as the well endowed man of words. It is both stylish and stylised and whilst some shots seem overly contrived (and they are) it does not matter as this is a tightly woven tale that pulses beauty, warmth and love. I absolutely loved it - every second and can not recommend highly enough - this is unmissable.
Great mistake buying this dvd!
