A lovely, flowing style of writing – aimed at fast reading. I could see Robert Mitchum as Phillip Marlowe in Chandler’s brilliance: The great Pablo Rogers was lying back milking his fame and waiting for the next high profile investigation to arrive, when in steps a long-legged, short-skirted, well-endowed beauty to become his personal secretary. It’s fun, enthralling and in a style that demands reading.
Jones is clearly a name to watch – and I can see this delightful, intriguing and beautifully described story being a new script for TV’s Death in Paradise. It has the lightness of touch and the frisson of humour running through every line.
My favourite stories in the anthology were Ghost Signals by James Bennett - a haunting tale of a family falling apart - and Patron by EJ Davies - a macabre story featuring Dr Shelley and a modern Frankenstein.
Lovely variety of stories in here and some very skilled writers. Highly recommended.
