Cardio Vascular fitness:
Cardio vascular exercise is any type of exercise that increases the work of the lungs and the heart, and is the number one way to improve your general health, burn body fat and increase your fitness levels.
Utilising the large muscle groups in the lower body, an exercise bike is an effective machine for a total body workout. Not only is it incredibly effective for increasing cardio fitness, but it's also easy on the knees and joints.
To get the most from your workout on your bike you first need to identify what you want to achieve:
Are you working out to improve your health or to lose weight?
Understanding a little about intensity levels will ensure that the time invested in your exercise sessions returns the greatest benefits, rather than a hit and miss approach.
Cardio for good health:
To stay healthy, adults aged 19 - 64 should aim to do at least 150 minutes, or 2 hours and 30 minutes, of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. Your heart rate should be raised and your breathing will be quicker but you should still be able to hold a conversation.
This level of exercise is for those wishing to improve quality of life and general well-being. Gentle 'good health' cardio training will increase your fitness level to a degree, helping you get through day-to-day tasks more easily and with more energy.
Cardio for weight loss:
To see a significant reduction in body fat, your sessions must be a little more intense. It's recommended that adults aged 19 - 64 should aim to do at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity every week. If you are working out at this level, you will be breathing hard and fast, your heart rate will be high and it will be difficult to talk.
This level of fitness is ideal for those wishing to lose weight and significantly improve their fitness levels.

Since then have tried to use it for thirty minutes a day, five days a week (and aside from two weeks have stuck to that regime). During that time the bike has been excellent.
Unpacking and construction took about forty minutes from start to finish.
Every nut and screw came on a clearly labelled, vacuum packed card which meant finding the correct part was easy. The instructions were relatively clear, and it was mostly a one person job, I just had to have someone hold the handles in place as I secured them.
Although the building instructions are clear, instructions on actually using the bike are very scarce. There's no explanation of what each programme does. I'd not used a static bike before so a bit more explanation about how to get the best out of my purchase would have been handy. Still that's what the internet is there for!
So I have just been using the "M" programme, slowly building up the resistance as time has gone on. There are thirty six levels of resistance and am only through a third of them so far. The machine is quite quiet, but has got a little louder with use. Still it's quiet enough for me to use every morning without waking the whole house up. Computer is mains operated, supports up to four users (remembering your gender, height and weight (which can be adjusted as you lose weight)), is brightly illuminated and displays speed, rpm, watts, calories and time as well as your heart rate. Would have preferred a miles/kilometres setting but not that fussed really.
So glad I went for this, wanted a reasonably priced bike, but one that was going to last and was expensive enough to make me feel guilty if I didn't use it. After four months it's still a cracking bike and I am really reaping the benefits of using it.
Hope it comes back on sale soon
There are a couple of irritations- the seat is incredibly uncomfortable after 20 mins. It is not as easy to move the seat height as the gym machines. Otherwise I am very pleased with it.
Lets be blunt, as a over 22 stone ex rugby player it is not easy to get a good exercise bike especially at a decent price, this appeared to tick the right boxes so decided to give it a try.
It was relatively easy to put together and I could do most on my own but an extra pair of hands would come in handy. Just take your time and lay the items out first of all. The washers etc coming on a piece of cardboard which is labelled was good.
I have read about problems with the peddles. I take a UK size 12 shoe and have not hit my foot on the bike at any point (just make sure you put the peddles on correctly as they are a bugger to start to screw in!
Ride Quality. This is the one downside, the seat is as comfy as a razor blade. Sadly for me the padded seat cover purchased in addition was not wide enough for the seat.
I "solved" the issue by using a hand towel folded over and placed over the seat (not perfect but a nice cheap option!).
Noise wise, my family can be within 6 feet and watch the tv at normal volume, the bike is VERY steady due to the wide floor bars.
After a solid week of use have to say really happy with the purchase.
It's a long time since I used an exercise bike, so getting back into it meant I wanted a machine that was relatively cost effective & solid.
This ticks those boxes, so quite happy so far.
1) The seat is as uncomfortable as an uncomfortable thing...
2) I am catching my heel on the crank, can't figure out why, but maybe just way I cycle.
3) Pedal straps are not easy to adjust & probably contribute to above.
4) The accuracy of the pulse monitor is rubbish, I can feel my heart bursting and I'm dripping in sweat, but the monitor shows 72-77ish with the occasional show at 100. Just not accepting that as after about 2 mins I'm showing the same rate. Got a Polar monitor on way, so will confirm it with that.
5) Distance, take it with a pinch of salt I suspect.. Just done 16mins up hill and according to the readout I've done 10kms! Again, not buying that.
It seems a lot of negatives, but I like the machine. I'm sure I could have bought a cheaper one & got more functionality, but this looks good and fits in the exact space I needed it to.
