Another good thing about them is that it's winter now and they keep my feet warm - great thing as I always have a cold feet ;)
You can probably tell that by how many images I took.
WHY GO TOELESS?
Well, they are sort of toeless, yet unusually toed! Does that make sense?
There is no cap to the toe, but unusually for socks, as you see from the images--if they appear eventually--each toe slips into its own allocated sleeve like fingers in a glove. So to call them toeless is perhaps a misnomer, as they have toes, but just no ends to the toes.
This separation of each toe and then their enhanced grip by not covering toe tips, enables optimal flexibility with each toe working independently, something we do not do normally. This means they have more applications than our standard socks with their generally saggy-baggy fit, and floppy toes.
It is only when wearing this particular pair of socks that I began to realise; toes work rather like fingers. They do not have to sit there in one toey fat lump, all together. They can move and flex individually to enhance grip and positioning, but first need to be freed from each other. It's a wonderful, far freer feeling and you can spread each toe wide, to gain better stability.
I wondered--before ordering, obviously--why on earth someone would want socks without toes. What's the point of them? I manage to poke holes in sock toes quite adequately on my own. But then I realised; fingerless gloves are my preference always, and toeless socks are not a dissimilar thought.
I then read about them, and saw the reviews. Now they have arrived (fulfilled by Amazon, so wonderful to get items the next day), I can really feel the benefits, not only of being toeless but also of having the grippy soles.
Firstly, we do not realise how constricting socks can be to movement, when toes are not separated. It's a case of, what you haven't had, you won't miss... but once you've tried these, you will want more pairs just like I do.
Secondly, the genuinely non-slip sole means they these toeless yoga / pilates socks are much more versatile and flexible for yoga and workouts, and the PVC nubs to the base means they are invaluable wherever maintaining static position is vital. Sliding across smooth floor surfaces and allowing the feet to inadvertently slip, can not only be a pain but also a possible contributor to muscle strain and injury during exercise.
They have just as much wearability around the home and I must say, I am mightily impressed by mine. Having only ever worn conventional socks before I am quite surprised at how different it is to wear ones with an individual toe (think fine gloves, as opposed to mittens) and how much more stable I feel.
The PVC grips to the base of each sock really do hold firmly to the floor; that's my excuse for not doing any chores today... I am stuck in one location! : ) When I first wore them and walked on a tiled floor, I was quite taken aback; the phrase 'stopped in my tracks' was quite pertinent. These socks did not want me going anywhere on that floor; I had to lift and re-place the foot, to achieve motion, and that's what they are designed to do.
I feel we could do worse than invest in these, too, for casual wear around the house in place of slippers. The problem with slippers is they have a rigid sole, and people are always slipping and tripping in them. The benefit of a grip-soled sock is that you have to work your muscles and toe joints, and that they allow you to improve your gait and posture by being far more definite about foot placement. I can already feel my feet 'working out' even as I walk quite routinely; that's something I never feel when wearing a shoe, a regular sock (which are usually baggy and wanting to fall off) or slippers.
MATERIAL AND FIT
Putting these on was not the challenge I envisaged. My toes, like fingers, found their own position and slipped in nicely.
The socks, with 14% spandex in an otherwise (healthy) cotton sock body, are supremely stretchy and you can see from my images how well they hug and hold the form of the foot. I love the height too, up the ankle; I saw some of those shorty socks and boy, they'd drive me nuts. I can't abide socks that do not cover my ankles! These are perfect, coming around 1" above the ankle bone and having a strong, elasticated and grippy cuff.
PACKAGING AND APPEARANCE
Good packaging and the company clearly prides itself on customer satisfaction.
The socks themselves are very smart and I was spoiled for choice on colourways.
No issues whatsoever; a good, stretchy, durable sock that hugs the contours of my foot and where all the non-slip nubs fall into the correct positioning with no effort at all. They are extremely comfortable.
The socks must be hand washed and you MUST NOT place them in the washing machine, tumble dryer or iron them. This is a premium sock with the specialist enhancement of the gripping sole PVC nubs, and you need to take care of them as a key part of your workout kit.
Many will think these are on the pricey side but I do feel that as there are two pairs, and they are so well made and functional, they are worth the expenditure and will support your workouts and your general comfort and footcare for a long time.
