Format: Paperback
For those who want to practice therapeutic yoga, this is THE book. The author, Dr. Timothy McCall is both a yogi and a doctor. In the first chapters he explains the general health benefits of yoga, looking at scientific research and personal accounts of people who have used yoga to help them recover from injury, post-operations and chronic disease, etc. Then he shows how some practitioners have used yoga for different health problems, ranging from arthritis to asthma, HIV/AIDS, depression, overweight, heart disease, headaches, cancer, etc.. A very useful tool for those who wish to improve their general well-being and improve their chances of recovering with particular ailments.

Excellent book for using yoga in treating a wide variety of illnesses or disabilities. Written by a practising M.D it is very informed and detailed but because he has real spiritual awareness it is also written with a great deal of love, respect and enthusiasm. I am a newly qualified yoga teacher with the British Wheel and I regard this as a very valuable teaching aid both for instruction and inspiration. 10 out of 10.

Excellent book, clearly written by someone who has experienced the true benefits of practising Yoga in all forms. If only more people would try to help themselves by alternative methods & understand their bodies.

I refer to this often for people in my yoga class, who come with a wide variety of problems. It is very well put together. Much of the information backed up with research, which is easily checked on. Very practical whilst remaining close to Patanjalis Sutras. Many different voices offering a wide variety of approaches. I enjoyed the fact that the photographs are not all of slender, ultra-bendy, young beauties; more a good cross section of human beings. I love just dipping in here, even when not looking for any information in particular. One of the better Yoga books I have bought.

The impression I had was this book would give me guidelines on postures etc for different ailments and illness , yes it mentions all but only in the context that yoga is good for cancer, good for depression, good for PMT, etx and tells stories about people who started yoga because of bad health then improved.
I know yoga is good for my health and was interested as a medical read but disappointed it does not really do that.
There are better books out there.

I found this book very useful, easy to read and an excellent reference point for when I need motivation. I bought a copy for my brother who is a medical practitioner. I wish I had known about it many years ago.

This book is very informative, yoga's renowned for fitness, lean muscle building and making people more supple. What makes this book different is the interesting facts relating to the healing benefits of yoga. Written by a medical doctor who has been practising yoga for 20 years or so gives more credence to the work.
The only way to find out the truth is to take part and assess for oneself!
I'm all for natural healing over drugs any day, this is not always possible of course, drugs are a necessary evil! Obviously it is not a cure all but surely can't do any harm, why not try for yourself.
