I think it would work a lot better and save litter according to the previous commentor's suggestion. I'm going to try and make my own cat litter sift. Think I'll stick to this cat litter for a looong time. :)
My wife and I recently got two new kittens, and this was the litter they had become used to at the breeders, so it was the litter we started using.
With our previous cat (who passed away about a year ago) I had been used to Silica Gel Crystals. The crystals were great in terms of convenience as they didn't require the liquid to be removed (it is absorbed by the silica) and the solid has the moisture quickly absorbed by the silica meaning little smell and little to dispose of. The crystals rarely smelt unless it was time to change them. However I recently discovered that the crystals are dangerous if ingested (something a kitten is likely to do) and the dust is carcinogenic to both cats and humans! So whilst it is amazing stuff I'm not going back to it.
So back to Yesterdays News. I was initially unimpressed. There was a definite urine smell most of the time for the first couple of weeks of use, and I seemed to be getting through a lot of this stuff. Not what you want on any front. However I persevered and I've come round a lot. I still don't think it's the best stuff in the world, but it's good once you know how to manage it.
A learning curve:
I did a bit of research into litter box management. My old ways evidently weren't working with this stuff, but the breeder loved it. I watched a lot of Jackson Galaxy (the guy from My Cat From Hell US TV series) videos and read some of his stuff. He certainly seems to know what he's talking about. My biggest epiphany was the fact that he said he didn't do a proper clean of a litter box more than once every 6 weeks or so.Read more ›
Yesterdays News Unscented Cat Litter, 13.6 Kg/ Sold by: Amazon EU S.a.r.L./ £15.79 in May to £23 in August CRICKEY!!! I would recommend moving onwards to Breeders Celect which is almost the same product and is very good too and costs only £13, almost half the new price of Yesterdays News.... Amazon - explanation of why massive price increase would be appreicated
Great, does what it says on the bag, no smells at all. I empty out poops straight way, urine can be difficult to spot at first but you soon find it's is a little darker and then can scoop it out. I do full change of box every 3-4 days and keep cleaning in-between, the longer you leave the litter in the box the more change of tracking you will see as it's paper it breaks down when wet. Some people have said they flush down the toilet but I would not recommend as believe eventually you will end up with blocked pipes. I wouldn't use any other type of litter, may be slightly more expensive but you use less and have no pong at all!
It seems hard and I worried initially that my cat wouldn't like it, but she has no problems with it at all.
I recommend removing solid waste immediately, and liquid waste every day or two. That way there's no build up of smell, and you can go quite a long time before needing to clean the entire tray out. This is with just the one cat - if you have more using the same tray you might need to remove waste more frequently.
I actually prefer Fresh News to this, because it's lighter in colour (easier to see where it's soaked) and has better odour control, but I have some of this as a backup and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Use it for my rats and a cat and they are fine with it. It is dust free so good for rats and the kitten's litter tray doesn't really smell.Published 17 months ago by Magda
