I’m not trained in 'business', I’m a visual artist , entrepreneur.
The book’s strengths were definitely the ease of writing style, real life examples, both from the author and reading about high scorers from each section of the Six 'I's and the 'Try This' & 'Resource Guides' in each section. Each chapter was about the right length. It took me about 3 hours to read plus time when I followed some of the resources to help. Had to refocus back to reading the book, and am now ready to carry out the tasks!
I found the Skill sections useful. Each Skill section had a clear focus at the beginning of each section with 6 clear points in bold type so I knew what was going to follow. I found myself writing a few activities down in a book to follow up later... (This is where a work book and pencil would have been helpful!)
I particularly liked the short personal references, in The Mindset sections. With examples of leading figures that I know and admire, Heston Blumental. James Dyson, and Anita Roddick come to mind straight away.
The Resources sections were great I can't wait to have time to explore further. I can see a lot of time and research has been given to give a rounded approach to exploring the ideas in each section further! (I must confess I did go to one and followed the little online quiz!)
The Activities were useful, as an artist that works on my own I felt these would be good to stretch me comfortably into becoming even more businesslike. It has inspired me to join with likeminded others, and carry out some of the activities in a group... can't wait!
After reading this book, I feel more confident about my ability to innovate. I am innovative in creating my work, but would like to be more innovative in my business practice. This is where I think this book will help me. I have realised that I don't have to be good at everything, I can find others who can complement me!
It has made me want to work alongside others (a bit like a book club and see where we can go with it)
Would love to see the additional materials that the Author uses, cards, games etc and definitely a work book.
